SEO Foundation for a Private Medical Clinic: Audit, Keyword Strategy, and a Local Search Roadmap
A full walkthrough of how MarTraff built the SEO foundation for a healthcare clinic in Ukraine — from a 300+ issue technical audit through to geo-targeted keyword research, competitor benchmarking, and a link-building plan.
The Context
Medharmony is a private medical clinic with locations in Khmelnytskyi and Rivne, Ukraine. The clinic offers a broad range of services — general practice, gynaecology, dermatology, cardiology, laboratory analysis, and histology — and has been operating for over a year without a structured SEO strategy.
On the surface, the site was live and functional. Underneath, it had accumulated significant technical and on-page debt, no geo-targeted keyword strategy, a minimal backlink profile, and service pages that were effectively invisible in local search.
MarTraff was brought in to build the SEO foundation from scratch — not just to find problems, but to produce a complete strategic roadmap: what to fix, what to target, and how to build authority in a market dominated by national healthcare aggregators.
What We Did
The engagement covered six parallel workstreams — all feeding into a single prioritised action plan for the clinic.
| Audit Technical SEO Audit Full crawl across 7 dimensions. 300+ issues documented — metadata, headings, canonical tags, indexation, backlinks, content depth, images. | Search Competitor Analysis Top-ranking local clinics benchmarked for content structure, keyword targeting, page depth, and backlink profiles. Gap analysis against Medharmony. | Chart Usability Audit Navigation, booking flow, and page structure reviewed across desktop and mobile. Friction points identified across the patient journey. |
| Key Geo-Targeted Keyword Research Full semantic core built for Khmelnytskyi and Rivne markets. Every service department clustered by local intent — not national queries. | Link Link-Building Plan Priority pages selected, anchor text strategy built from competitor backlink analysis, outreach plan developed for relevant referring domains. | File URL Structure and Meta Tags URL recommendations for new service pages, meta tags reviewed and rewritten across the full site, heading structure corrected. |
What the Audit Found
The technical audit produced a prioritised findings list covering all on-page and structural dimensions. These numbers reflect a site that had grown without any structured SEO process.
| # | Finding | Category | Count |
| 01 | Duplicate title tags across service pages | Title Tags | 56 pages |
| 02 | Title tags too short — keyword potential unused | Title Tags | 89 pages |
| 03 | Title tags too long — truncated in SERP | Title Tags | 28 pages |
| 04 | Missing meta descriptions | Meta | 64 pages |
| 05 | Meta descriptions too long — truncated in SERP | Meta | 74 pages |
| 06 | Missing H1 tags | Headings | 34 pages |
| 07 | Missing H2 tags — no structural signal for Google | Headings | 137 pages |
| 08 | Missing canonical tags | Canonicals | 56 pages |
| 09 | Canonical tags pointing to non-indexed pages | Canonicals | 139 pages |
| 10 | Thin content pages | Content | 64 pages |
| 11 | Backlink profile: 89 links from a single referring domain | Backlinks | Critical |
| 12 | Service pages not optimised for geo-targeted queries | Local SEO | All service pages |
Why Local-First Keyword Strategy Is Non-Negotiable for Healthcare
| A private clinic cannot compete with Helsi, Doc.ua, or E-likari.com.ua on non-geo queries. These platforms have national authority, thousands of indexed pages, and years of backlinks. Searching “записатись до гінеколога” returns aggregators from across the country — Google cannot determine the user’s city. The winnable territory is geo-specific: “гінеколог Хмельницький”, “аналізи здати Рівне”, “дерматолог Хмельницький ціна”. Lower volume, much higher booking intent, and directly competitive with other local clinics. The entire semantic core was built on this principle. Every service page, every keyword cluster, every piece of content — all anchored to Khmelnytskyi or Rivne. That is the only search strategy that produces actual appointments for a local clinic. |
